Problem: Tate Modern is a world-renowned art gallery with over 2.8 million visitors through its doors on an annual basis. Coupled to this are the many thousands of visitors in the form of contractors, exhibition staff, business visitors, caterers, camera crews, etc. who require access to the building via the “Back Door”. The security implications are massive, with many hundreds of authorised visitors in the building on a daily basis but with no way of controlling their access in a quick, convenient and cost effective way.
Solution: Using VMPro2 software and our “DaySecure” card format we were able to give them the answer they sought. The face layout of the badge was set up to cover the various needs of the different departments. All incorporated a photo of the person concerned for identification. This was produced quickly on site either by using an existing photo on file or simply capturing it at the time via a web cam. Each badge being produced in around 45 seconds.
For example, badges where required by business visitors who were going to be in the building for only a few hours, through to external building contractors who were on site for a number of weeks.
With VMPro2’s flexible approach to data entry, individual department needs could be catered for and displayed on the badge. By utilising the bar code facility on the badges all this visitor information was then made available, allowing the Galleries administration staff to analysis who was in the building, at what times and how often.
Health and Safety issues are always a concern with such a large site and the number of occasional visitors. The reverse side of the “DaySecure” badge gives details of what the visitor should do in case of an emergency, thus complying with the needs of the relevant Act. In addition to this the VMPro2 software has the facility to produce a list of all those currently logged in the building and print it to a dedicated printer.
The system was installed some 2 years and current run rate is over 25,000 visitors per year.
Problem: HI Weldrick is a small chain of Chemist / Pharmacies of approximately 150 employees based in the north of England with their own distribution warehouse. They needed to personalise their Access Control cards which gave varying degrees of access around the premises. (Certain areas of the premises are restricted as they involve stock drugs which are “highly desirable”). In addition to this they needed to have the flexibly to issue Non Access control based ID cards for staff at other locations and also monitor and badge up visitor attending their main site.
Solution: Using VMPro2 software in conjunction with our ProxSecure, MultiCardSecure and DaySecure card we were able to cover their entire requirement with added benefits.
The ProxSecure cards, provide personalisation of existing swipe cards without needing a plastic cars printer personalise all the 120 plus internal staff cards. Each card contained a photograph of the holder for added security. The cards were normally hung around the neck on a lanyard in portrait/ upright position. The VMPro Badge design software allows these changes to be simply incorporate into the design making identification easier. Because of the speed of the system occasional visits from staff from the retail outlets where easily catered for. Photographs were either taken from file or produced on the spot through a Web Cam thus allowing the staff to be issued with a temporary card. At the end of the visit the laminated film is removed from the card, destroying the paper part in the process and the actual access control card used again.
The offices and warehouse has around 1500 to 2000 visitors per year. Security is of prime importance. The use of the photograph on the Visitors DaySecure badge and the integrated bar code has added benefit. For not only did this allowed the reception staff to monitor how long an individual was in the building for but also the fact that they had a photographic record of the individual.
The company has been a client for over 2 years and after the initial set up stage is now using 100 + ProxSecure and 1500 – 2000 DaySecure badges per year.
